The Name & Inspiration

I’ve been a fan of Flatbush Zombies for a few years now, but I recently got curious and looked into where the name came from.

Turns out, the "Flatbush" part comes from their Brooklyn neighborhood, while the "Zombies" part represents their psychedelic experiences with ego death (the feeling of an old self dying so a new consciousness can be reborn) in other words, a walking-dead new state of mind...

I found that origin story cool and fitting, and I got inspired to bring it to life, visually. I wanted the design to capture that exact state of mind: raw, trippy, and phantasmagoric.

To bring that psychedelic rebirth to life, I leaned into high-contrast thermal greens and electric pinks and blues, balanced against soft lavender backdrops so the artwork can breathe.

Album Cover

The standalone cover artwork. Started as a rough character sketch in Procreate to lock in the layout and facial expressions of Meechy, Juice, and Erick, then brought into Photoshop for textures, dripping type, and thermal color grading.
